There are several reasons that inventory gliders are priced lower. We process them in batch mode, which makes all production costs, and all the office administrative costs much lower. We also use inventory gliders to balance sail cloth inventory, which reduces inventory carrying costs. Any glider which is not purchased from the existing inventory list requires special processing, and eliminates some or all of these savings. There is no way to order a glider that is "a little bit custom" and maintain the cost savings of an inventory glider. Even minor frame modifications - like drilling a keel for stabilizer - create a "custom glider" from an administrative point of view. The reason is that gliders are scheduled for production weeks in advance of assembly, and frames are made in batches, sometimes months in advance. To re-work, or re-make one frame is very expensive compared to the batch production cost. We often get questions as to whether a customer can have inventory price on some restricted color selection, or, if he can have inventory price if he's not in a hurry for his glider. The answer, unfortunately, is no - the only circumstance that allows us to sell a glider at the lower inventory price is if the glider is purchased as is off of the existing inventory list - and as a result, costs commensurately less for us to produce. I hope this makes the pricing policy a little more clear.
Specifying basetube/downtube options, wehre applicable, for an inventory glider incurs only the additional cost (or savings) of the options.
