Participants can get a reduced rate on tows during the clinic by pre-registering – just send an email with your name and “Landing Clinic” in the subject line to firstname.lastname@example.org. (You should plan to provide your own glider for the landing clinic – availability of demo gliders will be limited.)
Also on the schedule for this year, Seth Warren will be showing his new hang gliding film – if you’ve seen Seth’s films before, you know you won’t want to miss this!
We hope to see you at Wallaby in 2012!
Wills Wing Pilots Sweep Santa Cruz Flats 2011
This year’s Santa Cruz Flats Race in Arizona, September 18-24, was a great contest with challenging conditions, from weak, blue days to full-blown task-cancelling gust fronts. Jeff O’Brien took first place, with Dustin Martin close behind and Mitch Shipley coming in third. Those three and 5th-place finisher James Stinnett were all flying Wills Wing T2C 144 hang gliders. Joe Bostik and Chris Zimmerman took 9th and 10th place flying T2C 154’s, giving Wills Wing six of the top ten places. The overall results show how the lead changed over time, and there’s more info in the official blog, Dustin’s WW blog, and Jeff’s WW blog.

Great flying guys!
Hang Loop Recall – Recent Sport 2 and U2 Gliders
A customer recently discovered greatly accelerated wear on a hang loop where the loop attaches to the tang which is bolted to the kingpost on a U2 145. Current production models that use this type of hang loop are all U2’s and all Sport 2’s. Recently manufactured replacement hang loops for other models using a kingpost hang system are also affected by this inspection – recall notice. We do not know the exact time period to which the recall applies, but we know at least one defective loop was produced as early as March of 2011, so we recommend inspections of all loops made up to 6 months prior to that.
Please see TB20110825R – Hang Loop Inspection – Recall – Kingpost Hang Models (Note: Tech Bulletin REVISED 4/13/2012)) for instructions.
This Technical Bulletin does not apply to Falcon 3 or T2/T2C gliders.

Good Results at Bassano
Luis Rizo reports:
I just have arrived from Bassano [26 April, 2011]. We had a great competition with excellent weather, flying 5 days out of 5!
I had great time flying with my new T2C in a very demanding high level competition here in Bassano. I enjoyed very much the improvements of the 2011 glider, It is definitively nicer in climb than last year’s version and it’s glide is just fantastic. The new finishing of the glider are also great, congratulations!
We had three T2C’s in the top 10:

|4th||Michael Friesenbicher||WW T2C|
|6th||Luis Rizo-Salom||WW T2C|
Higher Than Eagles – Book by Maralys Wills and Chris Wills
Higher Than Eagles by Maralys Wills and Chris Wills
Higher Than Eagles is the story of the Wills family and in particular of oldest son Bobby, who, with his brother Chris in 1973, co-founded the hang gliding company that would become Wills Wing. It is a deeply intimate portrait, at times almost painful to read, but in the end a fascinating and compelling story.

Robertson Charts of Reliability DVD Now Available
Michael Robertson of High Perspective writes:
We are delighted to announce that our Risk Management DVD is now available. The DVD is a companion to the revised 55 page “The Art of Skysailing – Risk Management Notebook for HG and PG”.
The DVD is nearly 4 hours long and covers the three core lectures: The Wondrous Wind (Macro/Micrometeorology & Site Selection), The Wing, and The Windividual (Personal Variables) – It also includes almost 25 minutes of bonus material. This is an excellent resource for students, tool for instructors and good judgment review for all pilots. It is easy to navigate with over 80 chapter points.
The Charts of Reliability (©1979) break down each of the wind/site and personal considerations into twenty-line charts. Students are then lead to score each line and get an average. This turns a fairly complex qualitative decision (about the reliability of the day for flying) into a quite simple quantitative one. After reviewing it, Mike Meier of Wills Wing said he was happy to recommend the DVD/Notebook saying, “Decision making is not part of the game, it’s the whole game!”
The price is $55. Schools may order multiple copies at regular commercial discounts. To purchase single copies please go to http://www.flyhigh.com/reliability.html. For multiple copies please write or call.

T2/T2C 24:1 VG System Conversion
The easy-to-pull T2/T2C VG just got even easier!
A new 24:1 VG reduction system is now standard on the T2/T2C, consisting of a new 3:1 system in the VG Leg (downtube) and the existing 8:1 system at the keel. Previously, the T2/T2C had a 2:1 system in the downtube, for a 16:1 reduction overall.
Upgrading an existing 2:1 leg to the new 3:1 system is relatively easy and we have a Retro Kit available for purchase through your Wills Wing dealer.

Daniel Vélez Bravo Wins Hombres Pájaro 2011 – Colombia Open
Daniel Vélez Bravo has won the Hombres Pájaro 2011 hang gliding championship in Colombia, flying a Wills Wing T2C.
I´m writting to inform you that last week we had a nice hang gliding championship [Hombres Pájaro 2011 – Colombia Hang Gliding Open Championship] down here in Colombia, with 32 pilots from different countries. We happened to have some pilots from Ecuador, USA and Brasil. We had 4 valid tasks out of 7 days, 70km average, but we actually flew all the seven days of the meet.
On the first task I ended up third of the day, after running too hard to the ground 6 km short of a goal made by two other T2C pilots. Since that day, I really needed to push hard to try to get again into the fight for the first place, winning the other 3 valid tasks and finally ending up with the first overall place of the meet, over David Brito (Brasilian pilot that´s now flying for Ecuador), and Mitch Shipley (US pilot from QuestAir).
It was a really interesting meet, and we had the oportunity of having Davis Straub flying here also, and reporting on his Oz Report about the conditions and experiences over here.
You can read more info (in spanish) on my blog.
Congratulations, Daniel Vélez Bravo!
Wills Wing Has a Job Opening in our Sail Loft
Wills Wing has a job opening in our sail loft. The loft team works cooperatively from cutting components on the CNC plotter through the assembly and sewing operations required to complete the sail. This job requires attention to detail, a commitment to learning new skills, working cooperatively with others and will involve both lay-out and sewing assignments. The ideal candidate would be a hang glider pilot with experience as a sewing machine operator. The work environment at Wills Wing is relaxed but highly productive and self-directed. Most of the staff at Wills Wing has been here for 10 to 25 years or more and we’re looking forward to adding one more to this select group. Please contact email@example.com for more information.
Wills Wing Hang Glider Price Increase
Prices on all Wills Wing glider models will increase by $100 on January 16th, 2011. Orders received by the end of the day on January 15th will be at the current, lower prices. There are no changes to the prices for any glider options or upgrades.
We have not had a price increase on gliders since March of 2008, and all of our costs have continued to increase since then. We’ve kept the amount of the increase to a minimum, and we are confident that our gliders continue to represent the best value on the market.
We thank you for your support and for your understanding.

We hope to see you at Wallaby in 2011!
Our sales in 2010 have returned to pre-recession levels and are up 10% over last year. We have been particularly pleased to see the continued increase in popularity among advanced pilots and competition pilots of the T2 and T2C this year, and the increasing success of the glider in competition events. As we come to the end of a very successful year and prepare for the holiday season, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our dealers and customers. We are reminded every day that our success depends on all of you, and we’re very thankful to have your continued support.
